Bio
Lukas Prent is a German artist based in Rio de Janeiro, Brazil. Working with figurative painting and text, his practice explores social fragmentation, inequality, and the tensions between public ideals and lived reality. Beginning in graffiti, Prent developed an interest in visual storytelling and the social role of public imagery. After relocating to Brazil in early adulthood, his work evolved through experiences across Brazil and Germany, political art courses, mentorships, and three semesters of study at the Kunstakademie Düsseldorf. Based in Rio de Janeiro's West Zone, Prent creates paintings that combine vivid color and expressive figuration, while using texts to examine how political and social structures shape everyday experience.
Artist Statement
My work emerges from a sustained interrogation of questions of injustice, inequality, and the social structures that normalize them. Through painting, I investigate the tensions between power, oppression, and human dignity, using visual narratives to examine political and social contradictions. My practice combines figurative painting with text. While painting allows me to communicate through emotion, symbolism, and composition, text functions as a space for precision and reflection, extending the conversation beyond the image. I am drawn to simplicity, storytelling, and vivid natural colors, constructing dynamic scenes in which elongated bodies and angular forms convey psychological and social tension. Living in different cultural and political contexts has shaped my perspective on the implicit mechanisms through which inequality becomes embedded in everyday life. My work seeks to make these structures visible, inviting viewers to question what is often accepted as ordinary and to reflect on their own relationship to systems of power.
Concept
Fragmented Society is a concept for an exhibition that uses figurative painting to expose the profound gap between the human values of justice and equality that many societies claim to care about, and the inequality that persists in politics, mindsets, and consequently daily life. Through figurative painting and accompanying texts, the works construct visual narratives that expose these contradictions. Elongated bodies, angular forms, and charged compositions become metaphors for social fragmentation and tensions. Suspended between movement and stillness, the figures inhabit spaces where gestures oscillate between calmness and threat, belonging and exclusion. Fragmented Society investigates the implicit mechanisms through which inequality becomes embedded in ordinary interactions. It invites viewers to confront the distance between proclaimed ideals and social reality, opening a space for critical reflection and dialogue on the structures that shape contemporary life.
